And we are yet again about to witness the battle of the two greatest teams – The powerful Delhi Capitals and the highest IPL titleholder, Mumbai Indians. After 11 games, Mumbai Indians find themselves in unfamiliar territory with six losses in the 2021 Indian Premier League 2021. However, Rohit Sharma’s MI is known for making a remarkable comeback after some shaky starts in the IPL is yet to turn up in the later stages of this edition. The fans are relying on the magic tricks of MI to bring back the form that made them a five-time champion in the IPL.

Post the Punjab Kings’ victory against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, Rohit Sharma-led MI dropped to the sixth position and are back to the struggles with the other fours teams. 

However, the Kolkata Knight Riders’ loss has given Mumbai a breath of fresh air as their possibility to go to the playoffs is still intact if they win all of their remaining three games of the season.

On the other hand, losing the match against Delhi Capitals could leave them in a sticky situation in the mid-table battle. MI’s defeat to DC will leave all three sides (Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings) at 10 points.

Since MI does not have a very impressive Net Run Rate of the three teams, their victory will then rely on the defeats of the other three teams while ensuring its win in their remaining matches. 

DC in IPL so far

Delhi Capitals secured a second playoff spot in IPL 2021 with the Punjab Kings victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Delhi Capitals cannot let their guards down just yet as they still need to ride their momentum to ensure that they will still be in the game even if they lose their first playoff. 

On a good note, DC has a positive Net Run Rate, which is a good sign if they finish tied on points with Royal Challengers Bangalore (on third place in the IPL points table) or Mumbai Indians currently have a negative NRR.
