Team India was the first to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup inaugural edition of the tournament held on September 24, 2007, at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The 15-member squad had some inclusions and emissions, with Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal not selected to play at the ICC tournament. The backup and stand-by players were named: Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, and Shreyas Iyer. 

MS Dhoni offered to mentor the team for free during this tournament, an act that has been such an honor to the country. 

Virat Kohli has confirmed that he will step down from the T20I captaincy chambers after the T20 World Cup as T20I captain. After Royal Challengers Bangalore was eliminated in the IPL layoffs, the captain stepped down and ceased being the captain. With no win at the IPL, Virat will take home the title this T20 season.
